It’s official!  As of tomorrow, life becomes less affordable because of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), says NDP MPP Gilles Bisson.

“As we celebrate our country’s birthday, Dalton McGuinty’s present to Ontarians is an unfair tax that will cost families an average of $800 every year. Rather than making life more affordable for families struggling to get out of a painful recession, the McGuinty Liberals are making it more expensive.”

The HST – a new tax on everything from home heating to gas for the car – comes into effect July 1st.

Bisson noted that the early signs of the HST are immediately obvious.

“Gas prices go up tomorrow morning. Surfing the internet will get more expensive.  And your hydro bill will get zapped as well.”

In a report released by the NDP in May, the HST will cost the average family $800 a year.  Even with the government’s so-called “help”, the report shows that families will be $470 behind every year.

“Dalton McGuinty’s multi-billion dollar tax shift from corporations onto Ontarians, isn’t fair or progressive - it just doesn’t make sense.”
