Today in Question Period, Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson called on the Ontario Government to slow down the Far North Planning Act until First Nations are on board. Bisson says Nishnawbe-Aski Nation is opposed to the on-going process.

Why Premier are you moving forward with this legislation when groups affected by the Act are telling you not to?”

Bisson says the Liberals brag about a new open relationship with First Nations, but First Nations organizations tell a different story.

NAN is very clear in its resolution. They say Bill 91 must be deferred until all parties agree to consultation, accommodation and a consent process.”

Bisson says issues that affect First Nations are quite different than other jurisdictions. “We need to work closely in partnership so that all the potential of the far north can be achieved and be a benefit to everyone.”
