Audio Files:

Today in Question Period, Gilles Bisson called on the McGuinty Government to re-instate the point of sale exemption for First Nation residents. Bisson says the crown, in 1764, said that First Nations would be exempt from paying certain taxes.

Your government has negotiated with the federal government an HST that’s going to be implemented on July 1st.  My question to you is simply this: Why did you not ensure to exempt them in the first place, when you negotiated this HST with the federal government.”

First Nation Leaders are at Queen’s Park today to voice their opposition. Bisson says the Liberals had an obligation to ensure the exemption was negotiated into the new harmonized sales tax.

“The buck stops with you, Minister. It is your HST; it’s not the federal government’s HST. It is you that has implemented this policy, and it was up to you, as a government, to ensure that the point-of-sale exemption was in place when you negotiated it.”

Bisson wants Dalton McGuinty to amend the Legislation with a point of sale exemption before July 1st.

“It’s Dalton McGuinty’s HST.”
