OPPOSITION CRITICS SAY LIBERAL ARROGANCE CONTINUES2010-06-09 Post a CommentGilles Bisson and Tory MPP Randy Hiller (Lanark, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington) are blasting the Liberal Government for not listening to advice on when to hold community meetings on the Far North Planning Act. The Ontario Government wanted to time allocate the meetings to next week. The committee has since cancelled the meetings next week. Bisson says Dalton McGuinty was told to avoid next week because the leaders of the communities would not be present. “They totally ignored what they were told by all of us. They were ready to proceed. The Liberals keep talking about a new relationship with First Nations but as we continue to see, it is the same old story.” Bill 191 deals with future development in Ontario’s far north. Hiller says how can a government talk about consultations when the very people you are to consult were not going to be there. Bisson says NAN has passed a Resolution condemning the government. “While they support holding committee meetings in each community, they were not supportive of holding them next week when the leaders wouldn’t be there to speak on the issues.” NAN is inviting the Standing Committee to visit the communities in July or August, when its leaders are actually there. They also ask for more notice than the last minute warning they were given this time. CommentsNo comments posted |
