Pump Shock! Keep Your Promises at the Pump, Premier

Gilles Bisson launched his Pump Shock tour, a province-wide road trip aimed at getting the McGuinty government to keep its promise to help ordinary families hurt by skyrocketing gas prices.

"Dalton McGuinty is letting Ontario motorists down. He promised to lower gas prices. Instead, he is doing nothing while ordinary families are getting hosed at the pumps," Bisson said.

Gas Line up TimminsBisson, the MPP for Timmins-James Bay, called on the McGuinty Liberals to keep a series of election promises aimed at putting the brakes on high gas prices. They include:

  • In Opposition, Liberal MPPs Michael Gravelle and Mike Colle called for a Gas Price Watchdog to protect drivers from unfair pricing practices. Now in government, Gravelle has done nothing. There is still no one to protect motorists.
  • In Opposition, Liberal MPP Bruce Crozier called on gas retailers to advertise price increases 72 hours in advance. Now in government, Crozier has done nothing. Gas retailers can jack up prices whenever they want as high as they want.
  • In Opposition, Liberal MPP Rick Bartolucci frequently demanded 90-day gas price freezes to protect motorists. Now in government, Bartolucci has done nothing. Gas prices are going up with no end in sight.

gilles with Sudbury media"Let's make pump shock history," Bisson said. "The McGuinty Liberals should keep their promises, get in gear and help motorists hurt by sky-high gas prices."

Bisson has introduced two private members bills to help the Liberals keep their promises. Bill 74, The Keep Your Promises at the Pump Act, freeze the price of gasoline for 90 days. And Bill 93, The Keep Your Promise on the Gas Price Watchdog Act, would establish a Gas Price Watchdog.

Bisson also announced the launch of Pump Shock online, www.ontariondp.com/pumpshock. It will give ordinary families the chance to have their say by telling their stories and signing an online petition urging McGuinty to keep his promises.

"Do you suffer from pain at the pumps? Fight back. Sign the Pump Shock petition and tell Dalton McGuinty it's time to keep his promises at the pump" Bisson said.
